CRKN has been expanding access to Canadian documentary heritage since 2018.
In collaboration with our members and partners, we make over 60 million pages of digitized heritage content available free of charge in the Canadiana collections. To preserve these valuable materials, we operate the CRKN Trustworthy Digital Repository, certified infrastructure that ensures the long-term security and viability of digital objects. CRKN also offers digitization services for members and other non-commercial organizations, with the goal of expanding the Canadiana collections and serving the needs of the Canadian heritage community.
As we continue to build the Canadiana collections and our infrastructure, we are also improving how we display, organize, and talk about the materials we provide access to. We are implementing Rights Statements for new and existing Canadiana materials, updating metadata for records about or involving Indigenous peoples, and working with our community to identify sensitive content.
CRKN’s heritage activities are guided by the Preservation and Access Committee and its associated sub-committees and task groups. It is our goal to make Canadiana the broadest and most useful collection of openly accessible Canadian digital heritage, reflecting the diversity of this land and the experiences of those who have called it home.
